During the British rule between 1815 and 1864, cricket was imported to Corfu and played here on the Liston on the Spianada Square. The first game was played here between the British Navy and the Garrison on the 23rd of April 1823. Its still played here today and there is a waiting list for teams from all over the world, as it is one of the oldest pitches outside of the United Kingdom.
It was some twelve years later once the locals learnt the game to have two local teams play on this ground. The Hellenic Cricket Federation was founded in 1996 and is the only sports federation not based in Athens.
The main ground is situated at Gouvia marina and has many teams including two women's teams of which are sponsored by Corfu Tourist.
