Most marvel at its towering wooden doors and dominating 17th-century bell tower., yet with its unique architectural style, the church is considered a rare monument built around 1000 AD, making it the oldest church in town.
The architectural style of the tiny basilica is Paleo-Christian. The rare Byzantine church was built using stone and marble, of which materials were taken from neighbouring Paleopolis, an ancient city-kingdom.
The small basilica is dedicated to Saint Jason and Saint Sosipater, two local saints who were both disciples of Apostle Paul. The two saints spread the word of God and Christianity at around 70 AD in Corfu. Apparently, the tombs of the saints are found on the right and left of the church’s holy gate.
