The Temple of Hera is an archaic temple set on the grounds of Mon Repo, once the site of the town Korkyra. After the discovery of Doric column capitals, this site saw its first partial excavation in 1914 by German archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld, once left he never returned. In 1962 Greek archaeologists Giorgos Dontas and Petros Kalligas started wide-range excavations which lasted till 1967. There are columns and building remains still here on the site,. Many of the finds are on display at the Archaeological Museum in Corfu, with one of the most important finds being the Gorgon, the main structure from the front of the building.
