Sir Frederick Adam's lead a distinguished life. Born in 1781, among many of his achievements in the British Army, he was a Scottish major-general at the Battle of Waterloo. Between 1824 and 1832 he was a popular Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Islands. He commissioned the building of Mon Repos. Where Prince Phillip of England was born along with the construction of many other buildings. He also ordered the construction of the fresh water system, which ran from the area of Benitises all the way to Corfu town, via a series of pipes, aqueducts and water tanks, Many still stand and used today (which can still be seen at Perama).
