Born in 1661 was a German aristocrat and general of the Brandenburg-Prussian descent who served in the Saxon and Venetian armies in the early 18th century. Recruited by Venice he and his man successfully held the defence of Corfu during the 1716 siege against the invading Ottoman Turks. His statue, made from from Carrara marble was sculpted by the Italian artist Antonio Gorradini. Standing close to where part of the battle occurred by the New Fortress.
