Kiprianades takes its name from the first settlers of the village who came from Cyprus (Kipros). It is
one of three villages that feature natural springs in the wet part of the central north area and lies
5km south of Roda. It contains a beautiful mixture of tumbling down houses and smartly painted
ones sitting side by side, like so many of the old traditional villages of Corfu. Each one is different
from the next, each one with its own unique style, history and architecture.
As you enter the village, the nearest place to park is a small area elevated above the old pink
church of Saint Vasillios. Take a drink of fresh water from the ornate single tap on the apex shaped
white stone slab, complete with a basin. Peer down over the wrought iron fence at the church and
the houses, as they drop downwards into the distance, whilst undercover of the old tree. There are
no shops or a kafeneion here but a walk around the lanes is simply delightful.
The Kiprianades springs are within walking distance but you can drive and park on the road above
the track, where the springs are signposted, and walk down. I rode my scooter down the track and
it does seem possible to take the car down in dry conditions, but I wouldn’t advise it!
Once at the bottom, you will see the pool on the left hand side of the track and the small waterfall
spilling into the stream on the right. It is very peaceful here and - unlike the springs at Klimatia - the
water flows naturally with no manmade structure. Difficult to photograph as the landowner on the
right hand side has erected a three foot wire fence along the top of the bank (I presume to stop
tourists walking on the land to get a better view). Well worth a visit. Be sure to take a packed lunch,
however, fresh water is provided free of charge... Even in August!
