Kompitsi

Kompitsi lies 8km west of Corfu town on the road to Pelekas with the turning uphill on the left. A
village of unique beauty, spread on the crest of a line of hills, with stunning vistas, it is surrounded by
forests of chestnut trees and pines.
At the new cultural centre you can admire a unique collection of approximately 3000 automobile
miniatures, while a little further up you can enjoy a cup of coffee at the village’s traditional coffee
house. The most contemporary part of the settlement, under the hillside and along the road to the
town; has shops, restaurants, coffee houses and whatever you may need for your holiday.
On the hill of the village of Kompitsi, under a farmhouse of the Venetian period with a remarkable
chimney, stands the Venetian fountain. It was built in a peculiar architectural baroque style, painted
in a deep pink colour and is where the villagers used to get their water. The water supply is now
taken from the three taps in the schoolyard, opposite the church of the apostles. This is where I stock
up on our water when we visit Corfu.
As you go down the path to the fountain, a few meters from the square of the village, you pass in
front of the former catholic convent. This has a column lined atrium and is now a private residence.
The route to the fountain, with the stone paved path and the verdurous landscape all around, is truly
fascinating.
Kompitsi has a population of around 600 and on 29th June the village celebrates saints Peter and
