The Boschetto meaning small grove in Italian, is a garden located between the moat of the Old Fortress to the East and the Spianada to the West. Landscaped with flower beds, fountains, shrubs, and many trees and offers stunning close-up views of the Old Fortress and the surrounding seaward environment. In the center, a white marble statue of Lord Guilford, founder of the Ionian Academy, who also has a street named after him in the town. In 2006 it was officially renamed the “Durrell Garden” after the brothers and authors Lawrence and Gerald Durrell, and had the addition of their two bronze busts, in appreciation for “putting Corfu on the map” by their frequent, loving reference to Corfu in their books, essentially but not exclusively by Gerald’s book My Family and Other Animals, as well as the ITV series "The Durrells"
