The first house that the Durrells lived in. Why do we say house? The first came to Corfu and written in the book "The Durrells of Corfu" they first stayed in Corfu town. Although it's in the same position as the original house it has been totally altered and no longer has its Victorian-style garden and fuchsia hedges as they have been replaced by concrete fences and a terrace with a swimming pool.
From here Gerald had access to the chess board fields down in the lagoon, where you can now sit in the middle of the concrete wall and watch the planes land and take off. Something you may not be aware of is that the "Wall" houses a water pipe installed by the British to take water from Agioi Deka " where the "golf ball" is for the radar down to Benitses via an aqueduct to Perma then via this pipe.
The property is listed for rent although we have never been able to get anyone to answer an email about it.
